A.E. Green studied art and design at Western Metropolitan College of Technical and Further Education (now Victoria University), painting at RMIT, Melbourne and figure drawing with Robert Cenedella at the Art Students League, New York City.

In 2003 she moved to Japan to take up work as an Assistant Language Teacher in Saitama Prefecture. Her degree is in linguistics and she had been working in the field of language education in Melbourne for ten years. She set up a studio in northern Saitama, later moving to Gunma Prefecture where she now lives and works. She exhibits regularly in solo and group shows in Japan.

Green is also an author writing under the pen name Maie Wildridge. She has had her poetry published in the Asahi Shimbun and has twice been awarded in the Mainichi Haiku Prize, receiving second place in 2009 and and honourable mention in 2016. She has written a collection of short stories, a guidebook for visitors to Japan and is currently writing her first novel.
